The Centre for Augmenting WAR with COVID-19 Health Crisis (CAWACH) is an initiative by National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. Given the impact of COVID-19 globally and in India, the need of the hour is to support R&D efforts in this direction and end any further damage to the economy. Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India is supporting innovations offering comprehensive solutions for through the startup-ecosystem.

DST supported healthcare startup developing rapid test for detection of COVID-19

The Department of Science & Technology has funded ‘Module Innovations”, a Pune based healthcare startup working on point of care diagnostics to build up on its platform technology for rapid diagnosis of diseases to develop a product for detecting COVID 19 with a 10 to 15 minute test.

Kirana E-Supply Innovation Hunt

There is a mandate from the Government to ensure adequate supply of essential goods to consumers during the lockdown period due to the COVID-19 situation. The Government has also instructed pharmacy and grocery stores to remain open through the lockdown period and to provide home delivery of essential food supplies and medicines. With the current crisis, the population in the Tier 2 and 3 cities of India that were highly dependent on these Kirana stores for their daily supplies are now facing challenges

MHRD AICTE MEGA ONLINE CHALLENGE SAMADHAN

The All India Council for Technical Education and the Innovation Cell of the Human Resource Development Ministry in collaboration with Forge and InnovatioCuris has launched Samadhan – a mega online challenge to test the ability of the students’ innovative skills. Students interested to apply for the Samadhan challenge can do until April 14, 2020.

The applications for the Samadhan challenge are available on the official website – mic.gov.in. Candidates can also apply for the MHRD Samadhan Challence through the direct link provided on this page.

According to the official notification released, the Samadhan challenge will have two sections. The first section also known as Track 1 is called Ideate-Simulate-Win where applications are invited by innovators, educators and researchers along with startups to share their ideas to solve the challenges posed by the pandemic. The second section also known as Track 2 called Validate-pitch-Deploy invites applications from student innovators, researchers, educators, and startups with a working prototype of technologically advanced solution which can be validated and deployed immediately to support the fight against the pandemic.

COVID-19 Startup Assistance Scheme (CSAS) by SIDBI

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) recognizes the operational and financial challenges being faced by startups and has been making efforts to provide financial assistance and stability to such startups through schemes like COVID-19 Startup Assistance Scheme (‘CSAS’). This scheme will provide assistance to innovative startups that have demonstrated ability to adapt to economic impact from Covid-19 and ensured its employees’ safety and financial stability. Through this scheme, startups can receive a loan of up to INR 2 crore.

NIDHI PRAYAS

NIDHI– is the National Initiative for Developing and Harnessing Innovations – an umbrella program conceptualized by the Innovation & Entrepreneurship division of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India aimed at catapulting INNOVATIONS into START-UPS, which in turn would contribute to the building of an innovation driven ecosystem to bring about economic development through creation of wealth.

Under the NIDHI initiative is the PRAYAS program (PRomoting and Accelerating Young and ASpiring Technology entrepreneurs) that focus on developing new and innovative ideas into prototypes. At least 10 (ten) young innovators would be selected this year after a rigorous selection process by a panel of experts and admitted as “PRAYASEES” as per the established criterion of the program. Prayasees will have access to facilities like Prototyping Lab, Mentorship, Technology Guidance, Peer Networking and other required support. This would go a long way in making these innovative ideas see the light of the day as a manifest prototype. These innovative technologies, having crossed the prototyping stage would be ready for further incubation support and commercialisation.

Rapid Response Funding for COVID-19 by Omidyarnetwork

As a part of its Rapid Response Funding Initiative for Covid-19, Omidyar Network India today announced a INR 1 crore funding to a collective of 20 grassroot civil society organisations for their Rapid Community Response to Covid-19 (RCRC).  This funding will help the coalition work with migrant labour and their dependents in rural areas by (i) providing information (e.g. social distancing, quarantining), (ii) enumeration of and counselling migrants, (iii) supporting those at starvation risk, (iv) channeling food, (v) motivating frontline workers. They also plan actionable research to understand the impact of covid-19 in rural areas, and identify livelihood opportunities.
